Troy Tulowitzki back in action with the Sky Sox

When Troy Tulowitzki went down in late June with a broken wrist many feared the worst.

However, the projections were accurate and it appears that, at the latest, Tulowitzki will be back with the Colorado Rockies by early May. In fact, he is ahead of schedule and could return in a week, July 28. In his first at-bat with the Sky Sox Tulo hit a single; the Rockies will need him to have a hot bat when he returns.troy_tulowitzki

Until then, Tulo will play for the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox Wednesday and Thursday night before joining up with Double A Tulsa for a weekend series. If all goes well he will return to the Rockies lineup on July 28.

Jonathan Herrera has been exceptional at second base and Clint Barmes has held down short stop with ease in Tulo’s absence. However, the return of Tulowitzki’s leadership can only help the team that has struggled a bit after the All-Star break after being red-hot heading into the break.

If the Rockies are going to win their first NL West Division title in team history they will have to finish strong–as they have the last two seasons they have reached the post season–and Tulo could help provide that jolt in the team if he can get his bat going.

Herrera must stay up with the big league squad though. He has a solid glove and bat and is exactly what the Rockies need at second base, although Barmes is a premiere infielder with his glove.
